New Staff Bandmaster Appointed

November 19, 2007 7 comments

John LamColonel Glen Shepherd, chief secretary, has announced that Deputy Bandmaster John Lam has been appointed as the new bandmaster of the Canadian Staff Band, effective July 1, 2008.

Staff Bandmaster Brian Burditt, who came out of retirement to lead the CSB in August 2006, had committed to giving leadership only until a suitable new bandmaster could be appointed. Currently working as the director of world missions for The Salvation Army’s territorial headquarters in Toronto, Brian has fulfilled his duties with the CSB as an additional commitment during this prolonged period of transition.

A school teacher by profession, John Lam will take on the leadership of the CSB while continuing his duties as corps bandmaster at London Citadel.

Congratulations John on your new appointment. All of us in the Rupertsland Brass Band here in Winnipeg wish you and the members of the CSB well. We just played a concert on Tuesday evening where we programmed some wonderful SA music-Mid All The Traffic, Hymn for Diana, Jubilee, Songs of Newfoundland. It almost seemed like a good old army festival at times.
    Warm regard,

Congratulations John on your new appointment with the CSB.
I was just flipping through the net and wanted to read about the CSB as I had not heard it mentioned in many years. Glad to see that you are still involved with the Salvation Army and with Music. Hope you still play Bass Trombone as you were always a most excellent player (if memory serves correct). I am sure you will enjoy your tenure with the band as the Director and wish you all the best.
