Tribute - Marvin Kitney

December 8, 2009 Add comment
The Canadian Staff Band is saddened to announce the loss of another of its founding members, Marvin Kitney. Marvin was one of two original percussionists, playing first with Jim Cooper and then Stan Ewing. He was one of four bandsmen from the old Argyle Citadel, Hamilton, who were charter members of the CSB, the others being Bill Burditt, Brian Burditt and Ted Kimmins. Marvin was a loyal and hard-working bandsman and was known for his technical skill on the snare drum. It is of interest to note that when he first joined the staff band he didn’t drive, but he took the bus to Toronto every Saturday for percussion lessons with a member of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. Marvin played with the CSB from 1969 to 1972, when he was succeeded by Ron Reid. His passing marks the eighth original member of the Canadian Staff Band who is now gone. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family in their loss.
