The Canadian Staff Band is pleased to welcome Jeremy Smith into the band on first baritone. Jeremy attends North Toronto Community Church, where he is a bandsman and songster, plays piano and gives leadership to the corps worship team. He is in his second year of the concurrent teacher education program at the University of Toronto Faculty of Music, studying euphonium with CSB alumnus Robert Miller. He is also a member of the Ontario Central-East Divisional Youth Band and Youth Chorus and an aspiring composer of brass band and choral music.
It is of interest to note that Jeremy's appointment to the band makes five father-son combinations presently serving in the CSB, as he is the son of current Deputy Bandmaster Major Ken Smith. The others are John and Jeremy Avery, Ken and Joshua Bailey, Ron and Adam Pearson, and Dave and Philip Rayment. The CSB has a rich legacy of various family combinations serving as members at one time or another. It is encouraging to see this continuing into the present generation and it bodes well for the future of the band in the coming years.
